You should always have a ground reference somewhere along your RS-485 line, if you want good noise immunity and performance anyway. If you read the E1.11 standard it states the preferred topology is grounded transmitter and isolated receivers. All of my future product releases are AVR32 based. IMO m32U4 is well and truly eclipsed by small AVR32 UC3 devices, similar price point but a seriously better micro. Granted many applications use the VCP driver but if not then anything other than FTDI 2XX direct drivers simply wouldn't work with a non FTDI USB interface. This unit was always intended to be Enttec Pro compatible hence the selection of FTDI USB. I know at least one person here uses Altium. I don't have Altium (I use Eagle), but some of the DIYers here also do professional development work in addition to the hobby. (In a "spit data out as fast as possible" test, the ATMega32U4 on the PJRC Teensy I have at home can push close to 1 megabyte/second.)ĭo you have isolated RS-485 transceivers like RPM's dongle? Unlike the "software bitbang USB" solutions such as V-USB, the native USB in the USB AVRs is quite fast. Since you've gone surface mount, why not one of the USB AVRs like the Mega32U4? They're cheap and have more than enough RAM for a full DMX buffer. If you're using a 644P, I assume you still have an external USB-to-? interface. ![]()
